What is AdBlue®?
AdBlue® is an aqueous solution composed of 32.5% urea and 67.5% demineralized water, in accordance with the ISO 22241 standard. It is used in diesel vehicles equipped with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology. AdBlue® is classified as a non-hazardous product. It is biodegradable, water-soluble and colorless. Sold in TotalEnergies service stations, AdBlue® is a premium product that complies with the ISO 22241 standard and ensures a smooth-running SCR system in any make of vehicle.
What is SCR technology?
Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology is designed to treat exhaust gases. An SCR catalyst uses AdBlue® to convert nitrogen oxide (NOx) into water vapor and nitrogen.

AdBlue® can be used to bring vehicles into line with the European Union’s Euro 6 emission standard. It meets the latest standards from automakers, which have designed more advanced exhaust systems to comply with the Euro 6 requirements.

About the EURO 6 emission standard
The E.U.’s Euro 6 standard, which took effect in September 2014, is aimed at reducing pollutant emissions from cars. As of that date, the emission limit value for NOx was lowered significantly, with the result that new vehicles now commonly include systems for reducing exhaust NOx. SCR is one such system that has been embraced by automakers. AdBlue® is also used in trucks. All new trucks that have come off the line since October 2006 are equipped with SCR technology and consequently use AdBlue® as well.
Where do I fill my AdBlue® tank?
AdBlue® is kept in a separate tank from the diesel fuel tank. The AdBlue® tank filler neck can be located in one of three spots:
- Next to the diesel tank filler neck.
- Under the hood, at the front of the vehicle.
- In the trunk.

What precautions should be taken?
AdBlue® is non-flammable, non-explosive and safe for the environment. It is classified as a non-hazardous product. Any clothing or skin that comes in contact with AdBlue® should be rinsed with water. AdBlue® can corrode certain metals; in case of contact, rinse with water.
Since AdBlue® is an extremely pure solution, you should not use jerry cans or similar containers that previously held other liquids for the purpose of filling the tank. Never mix AdBlue® with water or other substances, especially diesel fuel. Any such mixture poses substantial risks, since it can cause serious damage to the SCR system. Be careful not to put AdBlue® in the diesel tank or diesel in the AdBlue® tank.
