Batteries without immersion
Batteries in immersion with Cell-Shield
Immersion cooling brings a new level of safety to lithium‑ion batteries. By placingcells in direct contact with a dielectric fluid, heat is removed instantly and evenly, preventing hotspots and controlling thermal‑runaway propagation. Thisadvanced cooling technology creates a more stable, predictable environment forthe battery, enabling safer operation even under the most demanding conditions.
The Cell-Shield fluid has been specifically designed to increase the safety of thebattery and to prevent the risk of fire in immersion:
- Very high auto-ignition temperature: the risk of self-ignition of entrained vapors isgreatly reduced.
- Boiling point lower than the auto-ignition temperature: in extreme conditions, the change of state (liquid → gas) absorbs a significant amount of heat (addition alcooling) before reaching the auto-ignition threshold.
- Halogen- and fluorine-free formulation with very low viscosity: improves fluid maneuverability (pumping, cold starts),convection, and contributes to safer integration.
When submerged, it is possible to achieve a high level of safety for lithium batteries, ensuring compliance with the latest Chinese GB38031-2025 regulations or the European UN R100-v5 standard, which requires that thermal runaway and battery firesdo not propagate.
However, simple submersion is no guarantee of exceptional safety, a rigorous functional safety approach must therefore be applied to all aspects of immersed battery development: design, integration, validation, and operation.
